Mercedes is currently working on NASA VIPER mission, a lunar rover aiming to look for water on the Moon. She holds the position of Risk Manager of the mission and she’s also part of the Mission Systems Engineering team as Technical Interchange Lead and supporting VIPER Fault Management. She joined NASA Ames Research Center on May 2019 and she started at the Mission Design Division (MDD) supporting conceptual space mission design studies in the Mission Design Center (MDC) as a system engineer.
Mercedes is a graduate of the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, with a Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering in 2015. She continued her graduate studies at Arizona State University where she was awarded a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering in 2017. Mercedes had two internships at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in 17’ and 18’. After her master’s graduation, she spent 7 months working in Europa Clipper instrument development as a systems engineer.
